The Ewing Family

Charlie & Sherry Ewing (your hosts) bought the SN Ranch in 1982 from Charlie's folks. (The name 'Circle 6 Ranch Getaway' refers to the Guest Ranch - a division of the SN Ranch.) The name - Circle 6 Ranch Getaway - was chosen by Charlie and Sherry based on a long-standing local horse brand 'Circle 6' now owned by their daughter. Evidence of the ranch name is apparent in the herd of cattle that roam the rich southwestern Alberta grasslands comprising the ranch.

The Ewings are seedstock producers of a cattle breeding program and company called Beefbooster. All SN bull calves are performance-tested and selected for certain desireable and economically important traits. It is an exciting scientific part of the cattle industry.

Charlie Ewing is a tried and true rancher - raised on the SN since the age of 2 and he's been ranching ever since! He loves it! His favorite quote... "Why go on a holiday when you can holiday here 365 days of the year?" Charlie has to his credit a wonderful gift of music - when he 's not busy around the ranch, you'll find Charlie playing and practicing his guitar, writing and composing songs. Sherry says he can play anything with strings!

Recently, Charlie recorded another CD, 'Cowboy Ways', with all his cowboy-related songs and a few others relating to the country, Alberta history and of course, his love of cattle. Charlie shows clever wit in some of his songs and deep-hearted feelings in others. You have to listen closely to the words to gain the full humor and intended meaning. When you come to the Cirlce 6, you can be sure you'll hear Charlie's mellow, calm voice carving out those tunes, while strumming and pickin' his guitar at campfires or special occasions.

Sherry Ewing was raised in town but her heart has always been in the country. Her greatest love (besides Charlie and her kids) has always been horses. To this day, she would rather be on a horses's back than anywhere else. Before she became a country girl, Sherry attended the University of Alberta in Edmonton and graduated as a Registered Nurse. She nursed for a few years on a medical floor and spent several years on Cardiac Intensive Care units.

Now you'll find Sherry doctoring the horses, dogs, cats and even some wild critters if need be. She also practices alternative health care - Touch for Health, Educational Kinesiology and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques). Call for an appointment if you'd like. Sherry also dearly loves to paint (the art form) and decorate. You'll see her work in the Ewing ranch home as well as both Circle 6 guest houses.

Charlie and Sherry have spent 20 plus years raising their two kids - an experience they claim as the best they've ever had. Both Cal and Lonni have grown up and are off on their own, gaining further education and working/starting their own lives.

The Ewings lead a very busy ranching life and are excited to share it with you. So, come on out for a spell!
